Winter Reset & Spring Ahead

I am sitting here reflecting on how long it's been since I have written about my journey. Time, as always, is flying by quicker than I would like it to.

This winter has been a time of reflection for me. Like usual for us, November and December are busy with holiday madness and constant distractions. Then, after the madness is over, comes stillness.

January has felt long, but it has also been bringing me hope and joy for what is to come in the spring. It has been therapeutic planning and sorting through flower seeds. I have also been making fresh arrangements here and there, trying to practice my designing skills. All of these things are helping my brain in a good way during the grieving process.

Being dormant is good for us, and I don't think a lot of people realize that during the winter months.

I have taken a lot of time to reflect and heal, even though I have days of sadness. Some days, it's hard to grasp that I have an almost ten-month-old. Ten months ago... how is that even possible? How will it even be a year on March 29th? I still feel like I am in a dream. Time, to me, doesn't "flow" like it used to and almost feels unreal. I can't explain this feeling unless you have been in the grieving process yourself. I am coping but still trying to heal.

On the brighter side, I am very happy with our plans for the spring. We are going to try to add to our "funny farm" with some ducks and possibly two pygmy goats (even though my husband thinks I'm joking, lol). It will be a spring of experimentation with our flower plot and raising animals, along with wrangling my own little three-year-old. Just as raising chickens has brought us joy and entertainment, it is a fun chore for us to do in the wintertime—more so when it's not 20 degrees below! They have grown attached to us, and we love them so much. They just started laying eggs at the beginning of January!

I have started winter sowing some perennial seeds using the "milk jug" method. There are other flower farmers in our growing zone who have been doing it and have been successful with certain cold start seeds, so I am giving it a try. We shall see! Hopefully I will have some nice delphinium and lupine starts to plant in the garden this spring!
