Learning the Ropes

I have this notebook I found at Target. The front has colorful stripes that say "happy thoughts." I thought it would make a perfect journal and log for my planting.

So far, I have 20 different types of bulbs, roots, and corms to plant in the upcoming fall and spring, along with 25 different varieties of flower seeds and grasses. I am going to be busy, along with feeling some excitement, frustration, and joy. Right now, I am taking in all the learning I can get from books and other flower farmers across the country. The biggest takeaway I have learned for beginners is to enjoy it! I am trying to let Lillian come through to me when I get an idea or if I get inspired by something. She is always guiding me when it comes to the layout of my plot, where to plant something, and what new flower to look into next.

Lillian has been coming through with so many ideas lately. Another thing I have gained from this loss is creativity. Some of you may be thinking, "How is that possible?" I can't explain the feeling I get when I know she is there. Something takes over me, and I have to act on it! She has blessed me with the gift of more compassion and nurturing than I have ever felt in my entire life. I hope she continues to stay strong with me in this farming journey, even in times when I am doubtful or discouraged. When I see that my flowers are blooming with their bold colors or something that I just planted is blooming, all I think of is her. I see her in everything that is beautiful: the birds, the feeling of the sun, and of course, the flowers. Lillian encourages me to keep going with her beauty. When I am having a day where everything feels heavy, I go outside to my garden to find her.

I am hoping to start some of my varieties in my greenhouse this late winter so I can have a head start on some spring bouquets! I am very excited to plan all of this out when the weather gets cold. It will give me something to occupy my mind and also keep us busy. I think Chloe will like helping me.

I am ready for the challenge. It will be a lot of hard work, but I am doing it for my baby girl, who is instilling me with determination. Thank you for reading about my journey so far! Have a great week, and I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July weekend.
